Poker boom in Russia

Not just Zavidovo is the only place where poker is getting popular. In Moscow, casinos are opened almost every month and they are very luxurious. Casinos like Golden Ring Club can be visited only by invitation. The Shangri La is open to everybody and it's offering tournaments daily with $ 500 buy-in and unlimited rebuys. And several clubs are open to those who are new at the poker scene and can't spend a big amount in big buy-in events.

Korona and Metelitsa are the most popular poker clubs in Moscow and 100 of players come there every day. John Kockbek, who's Australian, owns Korona and he was one of the poker poneers in Moscow, but he's not the only one who makes poker business in Russia's capital. Reese Jones, from New Zealand, is the general manager of Poker House club and Tony Powell, from England, is one of the owners of the Poker Club Management Company. Though in Russia, poker is officially recognized as sport, several poker-only clubs have been opened. Le Poker Club is one of these and recently it organized its first –ever poker tournament and the game was live broadcast.

Some of the biggest international poker names will play at the Zavidovo resort. The economy in Russia is really booming and that also because of the casinos of course. One of Russia's best poker players, observed a pot-limit stud game, which is not a frequent game in the US. The ante of this special game was $ 2,000. The pots in some pot-limit games can exceed $ 1 million. Tony G, a big poker player, once won a single pot of over $ 3 million. Tony G will also participate at the event at Zavidovo and also the players Patrick Antonius and Phil Ivey will be there. The event at Zavidovo will probably have about 90 participants and it will be the biggest event in Russia. All biggest names in Russian poker will take part at Zavidovo in the event: WSOP record-holder Nikolay Edvakov, WSOP 2008 final-tablist Ivan Demidov, bracelet winners Vitality Lunkin and Alex Kravchenko.
The biggest online poker rooms, like PokerStars started sponsoring Demidov and Kravchenko, because the Russian poker market is starting to be very attractive.

There will be also many holdem events in Zavidovo, beside the Main Event. The Main Event will last for 5 days and on the last day, the tournament will be televised.

The Resort has a great profit also in Macau and some Chinese newspapers wrote about the Wynn Resort and the fact that it may consider a Hong Kong stock offering to raise up to $ 3billion and that should help the company to fund the planned Encore at Wynn Macau. The Encore at the Wynn Macau will be a resort with 400 luxury suites and villas, shops, many restaurants and also VIP gaming space.

The construction began already and 2010 the project should be ready to be opened.
In Macau the income situation is different, that's the reason why Wynn wants to build an Encore there: Wynn Macau expects second-quarter operating revenues to be between $ 100 million to $106 million, last year those incomes were just $ 53, 2 million.

The adjusted property cash flow incomes are expected to be between $ 152 million and $ 158 million and last year it has been $ 92 million.
The final results for the second-quarter will be released on July 24.
Wynn Resorts affirmed also that its board approved the increase of up to $ 500 million to the previously announced $ 1, 2 billion stock buyback program.
Unnamed sourced diffused the news that Wynn Resorts hired Morgan Stanley, UBS and Deutsche Bank, because it needs help with a possible Hong Kong stock offering. Probably the project is going to be realized soon.

The problem is, that the Board wants that those who control the slot machine licence should be investigated prior to the licensing the casino. In this way, the Board has time to investigate the background on the application of the developers so in the future they have all the necessary information to consider the award of a slot license. Chairman Mary DiGiacomo Colins said the Pennsylvania Board has a very strict regulatory environment. The important fact is, that the decision made by the Board these days, doesn't mean that it would impact any future decision on Valley View's project for a slot operator's license.

Women at the WSOP

There are many women who actually play very well and they play among the leaders on the WSOP. Some of them are JJ Liu, Kristy Gazes, Kathy Liebert, Clonie Gowen and many others.
For example Kathy Liebert appeared at the final table in the first event; she finished third and won in four other events. In her lifetime she won already $ 4.8 million. Lately she affirmed that she is going to win this year's WSOP Main Event.

Last year, another top player, Kristy Gazes, won the 5th place at the NBC Heads-Up Championship. She is also the WPT Ladies Night Champion, and she made the 13th place on the women's all time money list.
JJ Liu, whose best cash ever was at the 2007 WPT Shooting Star, when she reached the 2nd place, recently achieved her first cash in the 2008 WSOP. Some years ago she has also been a WPT Ladies Night Champion.

Her lifetime winnings are $ 1,7 million.
It seems that this year the one who has to be feared the most at the Main Event is Vanessa Selbst. She's a new player though, but with her aggressive nature she can surprise many long-time players. It's her third WSOP ever and she even managed it to play 2 tournaments simultaneously and she won her first gold bracelet. Not too bad for just a 23 year old girl.

She also plays more heads-up matches online than any other tournament type and it's definitely one of her strongest elements of her game.
There are really a lot of very good women poker players. The number of prominent women in poker grew 3 times the number of last year.
So, now we just have to wait, if one of them wins the 2008 WSOP.
